Examination Rewrite, Remark, and Time Limitation Policies

Learn more about power engineering examination policies.

Candidates who have repeatedly challenged and failed the examination process in Power Engineering will have a penalty applied.

TSASK sees repeated failures as indicative of a lack of knowledge and preparation. A time delay between being able to rewrite is intended to encourage the candidate to continue studying or to upgrade their knowledge in order to pass the examination and advance in their career as a Power Engineer.

Below are the reasons why a penalty would be applied to a candidate:

  • If a candidate fails any 3 consecutive exams within a 12 month period, there will be a 6 month penalty from writing ANY exam.
  • If a candidate fails the same exam 3 times within a 12 month period, there will be a 6 month penalty from writing ANY exam.

If you are placed under penalty, you will be notified via email with a letter stating the dates to which the penalty applies. Applicants who apply for an exam during this time frame will be issued a denial letter. Please be aware that all exams are non-refundable. If you are denied to write an exam it will not be refunded to you.

In addition to issuing our own penalties, we recognize penalties issued by other provinces. If you are currently under a penalty and transfer your license or certificate to Saskatchewan, that penalty will still be in effect. Please note that by applying these penalties, TSASK is in alignment with other provincial regulators. This is also within the guidelines provided by SOPEEC.

Time Limitation Policy on Examinations, Steam Time and Approved Courses

TSASK has implemented a policy in regard to the expiry dates of all power engineering exams, steam time and approved courses.

Power Engineering Exams

Will expire 7 years from the date written if certification is not obtained (for example, if a 2A1 exam is written on April 01, 2017 and the candidate has not obtained their 2nd class certification BEFORE April 01, 2024 that exam will have to be rewritten). If you have already written exams toward a higher level of certification, those exams will expire on April 01, 2024 if certification is not obtained.

Steam Time

Will expire 7 years from the date obtained (for example, if your steam time is signed from Oct 01, 2016 – Nov 01, 2017 and the candidate has not used this time towards certification, it will expire on Nov 01, 2024). If your steam time has expired before you obtain certification, you will be required to submit up to date steam time. Any steam time that has expired will NOT be accepted towards certification.

Approved Courses

Will expire 7 years from the date of completion (for example, if you have completed your course on April 01, 2018, it will expire April 01, 2025). Any schooling that has expired will NOT be accepted towards certification.

Please be advised that all applications for certification are evaluated on an individual basis and, therefore, may differ from the timelines listed above.

Request for Memorandum

The results for exams written after March 23, 2020 are emailed to each examinee directly. They are NOT posted on the TSASK website, therefore examinees will not receive an exam memorandum to check their marks.
