Overview
Information on Boilers
Why Do Boilers Need a Permit?
Boilers are essential equipment that provide heat through steam or hot water for various applications. However, their operation involves significant risks, including potential explosions, carbon monoxide leaks, and other hazards. To mitigate these risks and ensure safe operation, new boilers require installation permits. Without an installation permit, there is no verification that a boiler meets installation safety standards. Permits provide for a record that a boiler has been installed and inspected according to the required standards.
Inspection and Approval
An installation permit triggers an inspection (“acceptance inspection”), by one of our qualified TSASK Inspectors. This inspection ensures that the boiler is installed correctly and operates safely. Inspectors check for proper venting, adequate clearance, correct pressure settings, and the integrity of safety valves and controls. The approval process helps to identify and rectify potential issues before they become dangerous, ensuring that the boiler operates efficiently and safely.
Permits provide a record that a boiler has been installed and inspected according to the required standards.
Licence to Operate
Once the inspection has been completed and the equipment has been approved to operate, the initial licence to operate is issued and will be valid until the following June 30th.
A licence to operate ensures ongoing compliance with safety standards and regulations and involves regular inspections and testing to verify that the equipment continues to meet the necessary safety requirements.
Information on Pressure Vessels
Why Do Pressure Vessels Need a Permit?
Pressure vessels are crucial components in many industrial processes, storing gases or liquids at high pressure. Similar to boilers, the operation of pressure vessels involves significant risks, including potential explosions, toxic or hazardous fluid leaks, and other hazards. To mitigate these risks and ensure safe operation, pressure vessels require installation permits. Without an installation permit, there is no verification that a pressure vessel meets safety standards required for its operation.
Inspection and Approval
An installation permit triggers an acceptance inspection by one of our qualified TSASK Inspectors. This inspection ensures that the vessel is installed in accordance with safety codes and standards. Inspectors check for adequate material strength, proper welding techniques, correct pressure ratings, and the functionality of safety relief devices. The approval process helps to identify and rectify potential issues ensuring that the pressure vessel operates efficiently and safely.
Permits provide for a record that the pressure vessel has been installed and inspected according to the required standards.
